Absorption Power Cycle

An ammonia absorption unit whose main output is electrical power is currently under development at Energy Concepts. Absorption is the most efficient mode of converting low-grade heat into electricity. This cycle can be designed to provide power solely or in addition to refrigeration.

  • Low required driving temperatures
  • Higher efficiency due to temperature glide matching
  • Adaptable to air or water cooling
  • At least 20% greater efficiency than competing cycles

Status

A 25 kW prototype is under construction and will be tested at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks in Winter 2010. A commercial 150 kW unit will be demonstrated at an Alaskan fishing village in Spring 2010. Look for more updates on these developing projects coming soon.
